Balms: The Top 10

Balm

I am balm obsessed, lip balm that is.  Living in Colorado the air is very dry meaning ones skin and lips are also parched. I am always on the hunt for a great lip balm to keep my pout soft and moisturized.  I’ve tried my fair share and have compiled a list of my favorites.  Here is a list of my top ten balms!  These are all on the high-end, however I still reach for my drugstore Vaseline, Chapstick, and Aquaphora.  This list is for when you really want to pamper your pout and splash out on a luxury product.

Top TEN

| DIOR |

Ah Dior, this is one of my all time favorite brands.  Everything from their foundations, to liners, to their powders are divine.  Dior does some of my favorite lip products.  A cult classic is the Creme de Rose Smoothing Plumping Lip Balm.  This balm has a light rose scent and is extremely moisturizing.  I have probably gone through four or five pots!  This is one that I put on every night and wake up feeling very hydrated.

Next from Dior are the Addict Lip Glows.  If I had to pick my favorite of all balms, this might be it, definitely in my top two.  It comes beautifully packaged in a twist up bullet and I love that I don’t have to swipe my finger in a pot.  I have the original pink and the coral shades.  Dior released a violet shade but I missed that one and I’m pretty gutted about it. These balms impart a beautiful wash of color across your lips and adjust to each persons chemistry and temperature.  This balm also has SPF 10 for some sun protection.

By Terry

| By TERRY |

Oh this is outrageous, if you are looking for a very high-end product this is it.  The By Terry Baume de Rose is the most luxurious of lip balms.  The original is a gorgeous rose scent with no color.  It leaves the lips feeling silky smooth and does not leave a sticky feeling behind.  I also have the shade Rosey Babe.  This is the same formula as the original but it leaves a beautiful pinky pout.  I find the By Terry formula acts more like a protective layer versus sinking in to your skin.  It has a high price tag but you do get quite a bit of product.  This is an everyday balm that I through in my handbag, keep at my desk, or throw in my car.  If you didn’t want to bit the bullet on this high price tag, I’d say stick with the Dior Creme de Rose.

| KORRES | fresh | Farmacy |

My next picks all come in pot form.  The KORRES Lip Butter has been long time favorite of mine.  The shade I currently have is Jasmine and it smells like cookies.  It leaves a light nude color to the lips.  I find this balm to be a bit stickier but I don’t mind at all, it has a smooth texture that lasts a good while.  fresh Sugar Nourishing Lip Balm Advanced Therapy is one of the best balms for filling in and smoothing out my lips, it is nourishing and plumping.  This balm has a wonderful minty smell and leaves just a light tingle after application.  Last up is from a new line carried at Sephora, Farmacy.  These are all natural products, loaded with fresh ingredients and natural antioxidants.  Lip Bloom in citrus lemongrass is the balm I have been reaching for most often.  This has castor seed oil and sunflower seed oil that protects the lips and creates a barrier to keep them hydrated all day.  All three of these products are created without Parabens, Sulfates, or Phthalates.

| Clarins | YSL | Jouer |

Most of the balms I’ve talked about come in a pot container- while I love that, the convenience of having them in a tube makes it quick, easy and more hygienic!

The Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector is my favorite of all favorites.  If I could have only one lip product for the rest of my life, this would be it.  These have the most delicious scent, a sweet taste and just the right amount of shimmer to give your lips the perfect glow.

The YSL Volute Tint-In-Oil is not necessarily a balm but it is extremely moisturizing so I consider it a balm.  This is a lightweight oil that coats the lips with a beautiful shine and a wash of color. As the oil absorbs, the shine goes away but the color remains as a stain on your lips.  I usually crack this one out as the weather gets warmer.  I find this to be a very low maintenance gloss/balm and goes great with sun kissed skin.

The Jouer Lip Enhancer is another great balm, though this is the stickiest of all the balms.  If you don’t like a sticky finish then I would pass on this.  However, I put this in my top ten because it has great color, a little shine, and it lasts a really long time on the lips.

| Bobbi Brown |

Last up is the newest addition to my ridiculously large and unnecessary collection of lip balms.  The Bobbi Brown Lip Balm has avocado and olive oil to leave the lips hydrated and aloe vera to sooth.  I have really been loving this balm. I also love the sleek tin packaging.
