Get protected

It’s May- do you know what that means?? It is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month.  And boy, do I love the sun — I also know from past experience that my skin burns if I am not wearing the correct SPF.  I’ve had my fair share of sunburns but I have definitely tried to be wiser the older I’ve gotten.  I do go in to my dermatologist every year for a full body check and have been lucky so far. I also wear at least SPF 45 or above on my face and will typically choose an SPF of 30 or higher for the rest of my body.  Remember, no SPF will block out 100% of the sun’s UV rays but here is a guide so you know how much protection you are getting.

SPF 15- blocks about 93%

SPF 30- blocks 97% of UV rays

SPF 50- block 98% of the rays

You may not be as picky about your sunscreen as I am. I have very sensitive skin on my face and many chemical sunscreens cause a bad rash around my nose and mouth. I’ve found that using a physical sunscreen (one that contains zinc) is my best bet and minimizes the irritation.  And while I am not the person who uses only natural brands, I do try to find sunscreens that are less toxic.

So, today I am sharing with you my favorite sun protection products for both face and body.  Some of these are makeup products and others are great for a full day at the pool or beach.

FACE

|Dr. Jart+ Every Sun Day UV Sunscreen| I bought this just before going to Hawaii and it has quickly become my absolute favorite face sunscreen.  A bit pricier but it doesn’t irritate my skin at all, offers a little tint, and completely kept my face from burning. It also wears great under foundation!

|CeraVe Face Sunscreen 50 with Zinc|  This is a physical sunscreen instead of a chemical sunscreen.  This does not make me greasy, wears well under makeup and really does protect my skin. It is also a more budget friendly option that the above.

|It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC cream with SPF 50+|  This is a beautiful, full coverage foundation that keeps skin looking like skin.  It has amazing protection from the sun (SPF 50) and wears beautifully all day.  This is my go-too foundation all summer long.

|Supergoop! 100% Mineral Invincible Setting Powder| I love Supergoop!, they are one of the less toxic brands who does sunscreen so I feel good about putting this on my face and body.  I also love that they are oxybenzone, paraben and cruelty free.  This translucent powder is amazing!  After applying makeup, I dust this all over my face to set my makeup, reduce shine and protect my face from the sun.  So good!

|Supergood! Defense Refresh Setting Mist| This is genius! I love makeup setting sprays and this one offers SPF 45.  After my makeup is done I mist all over my face to set my makeup in place and protect my skin.  This is always in my travel makeup bag.  It even works great on the head, if you have a part line or thinning hair, you can mist and help protect your scalp. I have the travel sized version as well.

BODY

|Sun Bum Original Moisturizing Spray sunscreen| I love the scent, it dries quickly and again this is Gluten, Paraben, Oil, PABA, Cruelty Free, and 100% Vegan.  This is perfect for kids and adults.  Sun Bum is my favorite brand of sunscreen for body protection.  Also, you can buy in bulk on Amazon, which it awesome! Sun Bum Continuous Spray XLtGl Sunscreen, SPF 15 (5 Pack)

|Neutrogena Beach Defense Sunscreen|  This is a great drugstore buy.  I like both the spray and the lotion.  Complete sun protection, nice scent, waterproof, and doesn’t make me feel greasy.

It is so important to protect your skin, especially as the warmer days approach or if you are planning your next beach vacation.  Don’t forget, use the right SPF, the right amount (3 ounces people!), reapply, wear a hat and sunglasses, and keep yourself hydrated! Now bring on that warm weather!
